How to Beta Test iOS 10 Today!

20 Jul , 2016

If you read my article about iOS 10 and simply cannot wait to get your hands on all of its great new features, well, you kinda don’t have to!

You can download the public beta of iOS 10 right now by signing up as a beta tester. As a beta tester, you have access to the update before it is completed and they include a “feedback app” so you can help report any bugs or errors for improvement. Anyone can do this, there are no special tech skills required, you just need a computer and your phone cable.  Also good to note that it is generally advisable to install the beta on a secondary phone.  Only native apps are adapted to iOS 10, so other apps (like Facebook, Twitter, etc.) will probably be crashing all the time if you don’t!

Here are the easy steps:

  1. Before doing anything you want to back up all your pictures and app data because betas – by definition – are unfinished and can be unstable. This can be done by connecting your iPhone to your computer and then launching iTunes. Then, you simply click on your phone icon and choose the “back up” option.
  2. Now that your files are safe its time to signup and download the beta. On your iPhone and go to developer.apple.com.
  3. Once there go to the “Download New Betas” tab and find iOS 10 for your phone model and hit download.
  4. After you confirm and enter in your password you will be asked to restart your phone, restart it.
  5. Finally when your phone comes back on go to settings like you normally would for an update, and download the beta!

And that’s it! Your phone will update and you will be able to explore all the new features and possibly take a part in shaping the actual release.

I know you are eager to get iOS 10 and want to take the plunge and try out the beta! Which features do you like the best? Which are the worst? Let me know in the comments section.
