Trend Alert! Keyboard Apps Top The Charts!

22 Sep , 2014

Friday was the day of the new iPhone 6 release.  And it was a very crazy day for me!  I was at the AT&T; Pasadena store at 4:30 a.m. for live broadcasts with KNBC and Telemundo and the Chris Voss Show as well as several tech bloggers who wanted a crack at the new phone as early as possible.  Crazy and fun!

It’s always an exciting day when a new iPhone launches.  Some trends around iPhone releases have not changed.  The lines at the Apple and AT&T; stores, the Android vs. Apple commercials, the blogs about updates to the phone.  But some of the trends, especially around the software side, are pretty different.  So, along with the phone release is the release of the new operating system, iOS8.  And new operating systems mean new apps!!! Yay!!
This weekend, trends in the most popular apps have shifted heavily due to the new operating system and one type of app is making strides in popularity: keyboard apps!

Apple operating systems have been notorious for strictly controlling the user interface.  But with this latest release, it has opened up a little bit.  That makes room for adapting some of the elements within your phone, and keyboard apps have capitalized on this opportunity.
SwiftKey, one popular option, has become the No. 1 free app on the App Store and has been downloaded over a million times.  Other keyboard apps like Swype are also tearing up the charts.  In fact, right now 3 of the “Top 5 Paid Apps” and 3 of the “Top 5 Free Apps” are all keyboard apps!  Namely, these are Swype, Fleksy, ColorKeyboards, SwiftKey, CoolKey and Kiwi.
So, I guess now is the time to “get your keyboard on”!!
Do you have a favorite version?  What do you love about it?
